Text

Lelia Sylvenia Jackson, 93, of Gallipolis, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023, after a short illness. She was born December 4, 1929, in Monaville, West Virginia , the daughter of the late Bishop Charles M. Grant, Sr. and Florence Edna Lee Grant Casey, who both preceded her in death.

After graduating from Gallia Academy High School, she married Clarence Jackson on August 29, 1956. She lovingly raised her family and moved with her Air Force husband to military bases in Michigan, Florida, Arizona, and Germany. She also lived in Kansas, as her husband served in Vietnam and Thailand. During their retirement years, they lived in Arizona and Ohio.

She is preceded in death by Clarence, her husband for 64 years; and her brother Charles Grant. She is survived by her children, Keith Jackson and Edna (Lawrence) Cochrane; and grandson D.J. "Ducky" Cochrane. She is also survived by her sister Anna Cordell, brothers Elder Larry (Diane) Grant; Michael (Roxy) Casey, William (Carolyn) Casey and Robert Casey.

Family and Church were the center of Lelia’s life. She was a loving wife and mother, teaching her children about Christian values through her life’s example. Bedtime was always a time of Bible reading and prayer, and a foundational part of her life. She loved to encourage others, and always had her home open to family and friends. She was a great listener, with a passion to be that person who was always there for others.

Services will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, with Pastor Joe Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:30 p.m - 3 p.m. Sunday attire requested.
