Ralph Lowell Bennett, 96, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Arbors of Gallipolis. The son of the late Cecil and Edna Mae (Perdue) Bennett, he was born in Columbus, Ohio December 8, 1926. A United States Army Veteran, Ralph retired from Smith Transfer where he was employed as an over the road truck driver. During his tenure with the company, he received a 15 Year Safe Driver Award and the Mack Truck Inc. Mack Million Miles Safety Award.

An avid NASCAR Fan, he was very proud of the fact that he attended the Inaugural Race at Daytona International Raceway. He also traveled to races in Bristol, Tennessee, Darlington, South Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina and Talladega, Alabama.

A Boy Scout himself, he enjoyed driving the Boy Scouts bus taking the boys to cabin and camping outings. His other memberships include the VFW Post 4464, Gallipolis, Ohio and Southern A’s Model A Club, also of Gallipolis.

He leaves behind his wife, Sara “Sally” Bennett, Gallipolis; children: Beverly (Daniel) Dunkle and Jackie (Tombo) Woodward, both of Gallipolis and Shari (Scott) Haase, Mission Viejo, California; grandchildren: Drew (Sueann) Dunkle and Cara (Tim Heggedahl) Dunkle, both of Brookville, Ohio; Rob (Mariah) Woodward, Wheelersburg, Ohio; Morgan (Todd) Houck, Gallipolis; Devlon Haase, Mission Viejo, California and Keenan Haase, Boston, Massachusetts and nine great-grandchildren. Also left are stepsons Jack (Natalie) Yeagley, Atlanta, Georgia and Joseph (Kendall) Yeagley, Reno Nevada; sister-in-law, Arlene Bennett, Lancaster, Ohio and a niece and nephew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jean Bennett and brother, Lawrence “Larry” Bennett.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis with Rev. Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery, Gallipolis with Full Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday 12:00-1:00 PM.
