Charles “Charlie” E. Mayes, 76, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 in Holzer Medical Center Emergency Room, Gallipolis. Charlie was born March 16, 1947 in Gallipolis to the late John Edward and Effie Jane (Bostic) Mayes. A United States Marine Corp Veteran, he worked for Ohio Power for more than twenty years as well as Buckeye Rural Electric for twenty years as a lineman. He was a member of VFW Post 4464, Gallipolis and a former member of IBEW #2359, Circleville, Ohio.
Those surviving are his children: Mitzi (Darrell) Patrick, Crystal River, Florida; Chad (Kari) Mayes and Stephanie (Larry “Tee”) Harris, both of Gallipolis; grandchildren: Charles Daniel Patrick, Joshua Lee Patrick, Chase Jonathan Mayes, Kyle Edward Mayes, Ryleigh Jayne Halley, Sophie Grace Harris, Cooper Tee Harris, Natalie Shea Harris and Isabella “Izzy” Harris. Also surviving are sister, Joan Staten, Gallipolis; niece, Molly Bing, Hurricane, West Virginia and great-nieces, Adalynn Bing and Jensen Bing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by half-brothers, Jack Mayes and Jim Mayes.
Charlie enjoyed camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, August 14, 2023 in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallipolis. Full Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail. Visitation will be conducted Sunday, August 13, 2023 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis at 3:00-5:00 PM.
