Tollison “Kail” Burleson, 88, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in Holzer Assisted Living, Gallipolis, Ohio. Kail was born April 3, 1935 in Little Kyger near Cheshire, Ohio, the son of Georgia Kail and TF “Nick” Burleson. He married Phyllis L. Metcalf, the true love of his life, whose side he never left, June 12, 1955.
Kail graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1953, having served as President of the Gallipolis FFA. After graduation, he continued in dairy and produce farming with his father and brother, then ran the dairy for another twenty-eight years. He then switched to beef and tobacco farming with his father, son and son-in-law.
He worked several part-time jobs including being a bus driver for North Gallia High School and substitute mail carrier. He served as Springfield Township Trustee for twenty years and Gallia County Commissioner for eight years. Kail was a member of First Baptist Church, Gallipolis, serving as Deacon and Trustee for many years.
He also served on the Gallia County Junior Fair Board, Gallia County Farm Bureau, Gallia County Soil and Water Conservation Board, Little Kyger Grange, Gallia County Children’s Services, Scioto Hills Christian Camp Board Member and Gallia Rural Water District.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Bill (Penny) Burleson, Gallipolis; Vicki (Steve) Stairs, Rio Grande, Ohio; Connie (Rob) Massie, Bidwell, Ohio and David (Lisa) Burleson, Gallipolis; grandchildren: Chris Stairs, Ben Stairs, Erica Preston, Josh Burleson, Will Burleson, Heath Massie, Hannah Burnett, Stephanie Miceli, Travis Massie, Tim Stairs, Jessica Burleson, Sarah Brown, Elizabeth Rostorfer, Adam Massie and Lawrence Wedemeyer; forty-eight great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Janyce Burleson and Fannie Metcalf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Burleson and brother-in-law, Tom Metcalf.
Kail loved having his family around. He loved to watch all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren show their animals and participate in sports at all levels. He enjoyed the county fair and until this year, had never missed one. He loved his church, farming, traveling and listening to people.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, August 26, 2023 in the First Baptist Church, Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Aaron Young officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Garden, Gallipolis, Ohio. Family and friends may call at the church Saturday 11:00 AM to the 1:00 PM service time. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, is honored to serve the Burleson Family.
