Roberta Kay Anders, 72, of Green Township, Gallipolis, passed away at 1:41 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in the Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Born October 12, 1951 in Southside, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Leonard Alexander and Letha Catherine Lanier Dowell. Kay was a graduate of the Point Pleasant High School and the St. Mary’s School of Nursing with certification in respiratory therapy and phlebotomy.

She retired in 2020 from Holzer Clinic as an ophthalmic technician, also having been associated with the ophthalmology practice of Edward Sheridan M.D. for 21 years. Kay was an active member of the Gallipolis First Presbyterian Church serving as Moderator of the Deacons for the past eight years. She organized the Christmas Angel Tree Project and the Church Shoe Cupboard, was the church’s co-treasurer, member of both the Chancel Choir member and the Bell Choir. Kay also has served as an Elder on the Board of Session.

Kay is survived by her husband, F. Glenn Anders, whom she married September 2, 2003, in Gallipolis, her daughters, Mary Kay (Alan) Queen, of Gallipolis, Tina Marie (John) Miles, of Lake Worth, Florida, Pam (Jason) Veale, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Robi Lynn (Kabet) Sterk, of Hudsonville, Michigan, and Liana (Curt) Colson, of Wichita, Kansas, grandchildren, Derreck Queen, Dalton Queen, Samara Queen, Kailey Bookout, Paige Sam, C. J. Snip, Seth Colson and Samantha Colson, and a great-grandchild, Brielle Sam. Also surviving is a sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Cook, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, brother, George Allen (Phyllis) Dowell, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, sisters-in-law, Jackie Dowell, of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Nancy Dowell, of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, and Brenda Anders, of Sylvia, North Carolina, and a brother-in-law, Gene Powell, of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents Kay was preceded in death by a grandson, Trenton C. Jones, infant brother, Jerry Edwin Dowell, two brothers, Dexter Ray Dowell and Michael Lee Dowell and a sister, Nancy Powell, and a brother-in-law, Bob Anders.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2023, in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home. Officiating will be Canon W. Brent Sturm O.S.L. Friends may call from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Kay to the First Presbyterian Church, Angel Tree Project and Christmas Food Baskets, 51 State Street, Gallipolis, OH 45631 or to Poppy’s Kitchen 46 Court Street, Gallipolis, OH 45631.

Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis, is entrusted with Kay’s arrangements.
