James L (Jim) Davis, 86, of Racine, Ohio, went to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at home with his family.
Born July 3, 1936 in Barium, Colorado, he was the son of the late Harvey Bell and Eva Marie Barringer Davis. Jim retired from the Army Corp of Engineers after 27 years of service, he then worked as a carpenter in the Carpenters Local 650 in Pomeroy. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of 50 years, a Shriner for 43 years, a member of the American Legion, and a Kentucky Colonel. Jim was the founding father of the Pomeroy Sternwheel Regatta and was active in the Saint Jude Ride. He was a proud veteran of The United States Navy.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Donna Hemsley Davis; three sons, Jimmy Davis, Jerry Davis, John (Brenda) Davis; two stepchildren, Tom Roush and Deatra Lee; six grandchildren, Becky, Brittany, Garrison, Ryan, Brandon, and Emily; three great grandchildren, Garrett, Grace, and Cammy; two sisters, Thelma Hayes and Jessie Ann Bigley and a special friend, Scot Heckert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson and three brothers, Don Whitlock, Bill Davis, and Jess Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Ewing-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Pomeroy with Jordan Pickens officiating. Masonic services will be conducted by The Shade River Masonic Lodge #453 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Gilmore Cemetery in Pomeroy where military services will be conducted.
