Loretta B. McCombs Shaver, 75, of Ravenswood is finally home. She went to be with the Lord on August 26, 2023, surrounded by the family she loved so much.
Loretta was a loving wife, mother, nan, sister and aunt and she loved her family fiercely. We will miss her strength, quiet faith, guidance, selfless nature, and kindness, but know that we will one day be reunited with her in Heaven.
Loretta was born in Akron, Ohio on September 28, 1947. She was the first of three children born to James Robert McCombs Sr. and Betty Lou Fisher McCombs. She grew up in Good Hope, WV and graduated from Unidis High School in West Milford, WV. Soon after graduation, her family moved to Ravenswood, WV where her father took a job at Kaiser Aluminum. Ravenswood is where she met and married, Charles (Butch) Shaver, her husband of 55 years. They had one daughter, Kim, and the family of three took on life together.
Loretta was first employed by The Ravenswood News and later Farmer’s Federal Savings and Loan. She worked at the bank until she retired from One Valley Bank to be a full time “Nan”. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys. She was a proud dog mom to her many furry children and each one held a special place in her heart. She was lovingly known as B or Aunt B, and if you know what that stands for you were in her inner circle. Loretta loved God and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years. While serving there, she sang in the choir and participated in the Women’s Ministries.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Johnny Ray Shaver and Gregory Poston; mother-in-law, Johnnie Mae Calnon; and father-in-law Charles M. Shaver.
Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her husband, Charles (Butch) Shaver; beloved daughter, Kim Love and son in love Bryan, granddaughter and light of her life, Taylor Morris and her husband Markeem. She will also be deeply missed by her sister, Barbara Poston; her brother, James McCombs Jr., and his wife Marilyn. Loretta was blessed to have an extended family of in laws who loved her like a sister in Stan Shaver and his wife Babbe, Dee Scritchfield and her husband Kim, and Elaine Varney and her husband Pat. God also blessed her with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that she loved with all of her heart.
Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Visitation will be 2-4 pm and the service at 4 pm with Pastor Brian Arthur officiating. Burial to follow at the Ravenswood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Hospice of WV in honor of Loretta.
