Fred (Rick)W Crow III passed away peacefully at his home in Arizona May 18, 2024. Rick was born February 15, 1945, in Clarksburg, WV. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, daughter Anne Lowry Rocchi (Beej), sons Frederick (Wil) Crow IV (Kelsey) and Charles (Blake) Crow (Jenny), grandchildren Bruno Casci, Rocco Casci, Gino Casci, Felicity Crow, Faustina Crow, two great-grandchildren Leo and Gianni Casci, and a brother Carson Crow. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Fred W Crow Jr and Eleanor Karr Crow, a sister Linda Crow Beegle and three life-long friends Eddie Blake, Larry Powell, and Howard K Parker.

Rick earned his law degree from Ohio State and then began his career in 1970 as the first Legal Advisor for the Dayton Police Department. After that he returned to Meigs County and practiced law with his father in the family law practice Crow, Crow and Porter. Later he was elected as Meigs County’s prosecuting attorney and served in that position for 12 years. In 1989 he was elected Judge for the Meigs County Common Pleas Court and served in that position for 23 years.

When asked what his most prized accomplishment was Rick responded with “my four-year scholarship to play football for Miami of Fl.” Prior to playing for Miami he had an outstanding football career playing for the Pomeroy Purple Panthers and was All SEOL his sophomore, junior and senior years.

Rick was a part of several groups and organizations in his lifetime that did varying service projects for families in our community. However, if you knew him well you knew he had a heart for anyone that was ill and especially those who were unable to get out and socialize. Rick loved to visit those people and if at all possible, he would take a friend or two with him and make it a special event. He has left that legacy for his family to continue, and we will strive to do our best.

Upon learning of his liver cancer diagnosis Rick shared that his bucket list consisted of two things. One was to see a baby boy born into the family to continue the name legacy of Frederick Wilkinson Crow. The other was to go to just one more Cleveland Browns football game. Rick will not get to see his new grandson but with tears in his eyes he has seen ultrasound pictures of Frederick Wilkinson Crow V. And seeing another Browns game obviously did not pan out but we will watch them and cheer them on with tears in our eyes. Go Browns!

Viewing hours will be on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Rick recently confessed his faith and joined with the believers of the Catholic Church, therefore a private service will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pomeroy . Family and friends are welcome to join the family for a graveside service at Beech Grove Cemetery in Pomeroy at 12:00pm on Friday, May 24, 2024.

In lieu of flowers and to continue with Rick’s desire to help others, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following organizations to assist in meeting local families’ needs for food. Please notify the family of your contribution or ask your organization of choice to notify the family for a personal Thank You. Otherwise thank you in advance for being a blessing to others.
