Text
On September 1, 2025, Sonja Faye Lawson Midcap, 81 years of age of Middleport, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Savior, at her home with her husband Allen by her side.
Sonja was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on February 25, 1944, to the late Reba Mahler Lawson and Siegel Lawson.
Sonja graduated from Trevecca High School in Nashville, Tennessee and attended Trevecca Nazarene College for one year going on to attend and graduate from Droughns Business School.
In 1961 Sonja met her first and true love Allen, whom she married on May 21, 1965. Allen and Sonja celebrated 60 years of marriage this past May 2025.
Together they built a life and family as they served the Lord through ministering in the Nazarene Church, in various states and local communities in the Florida, West Virginia and Ohio regions.
Sonja dedicated her life as a devoted Christian, by always lending a helping hand with whatever needed to be done. She was considered a “jack-of-all-trades” and had many talents that she displayed over the years by playing piano, babysitting, teaching Sunday school, and event coordinating events for the Nazarene church that were at the local level as well as the district level.
Sonja loved her family more than words could express, and even near the very end said, I am sad that I must leave the ones that I love the most. She was loved by many people, and she will be missed by her family and friends.
Sonja is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Allen Midcap, and her four children: sons: David (Kim) Midcap, Elkview, WV, Tony (Teresa) Midcap of Boise, ID, Brent (Melissa) Midcap of Mount Vernon, OH and her only daughter and youngest child, Christa (Jonathan) Johnson of Snoqualmie, WA, grandchildren: Jordyn (Daniel) Fox, Caleb Midcap, Allena Midcap, and Sequoia Midcap, and one greatgrandchild, Lenora Fox.
To honor Sonja’s wishes, no formal service will be held, however, a graveside service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 2:00pm at Paden Memorial Garden, New Martinsville, WV, with Pastor Patrick McCue, II officiating. Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home of Pomeroy, OH is in charge of the services.
